Here’s to another three years in paradise…. vina’a va’alevu to all of you for making the dream real. Long may it continue.

A recent visiting tribe member, Claire from France, sums up what we are trying to achieve well:

“This is not Fijian hospitality purely for tourist dollars. It is travellers and locals learning from each other and building something good together. It’s the first time during my travels that the nagging guilty feeling associated with being a marauding tourist left me alone. I knew I was involved in something genuinely constructive and positive.

It offers the opportunity to get involved with the local community in meaningful ways. I spent many happy hours listening to Pupu (Grandpa), the wonderful island elder ‘yarning’ about how he has cured the sick using local plants and herbs. I’ve been in the middle of a discussion about the best way to secure roofing thatch, helped rebuild a bure (traditional fijian cottage) roof, learnt Fijian songs, heard copious fishing stories on the grog mat and learnt about the superstitions, dreams and visions of the ancestors. These have all given me a truly authentic glimpse into Fijian life that resort stays and tours simply don’t manage."

Great Ben but does the three years mean that we were not granted 10 years as you had mentioned previously? Or is the three years a way of keeping tabs on what happens?

I’m delighted that online membership continues – many thanks for incorporating that and also for the extra two nights on VV (not sure that I’ll be able to make use of them but a brilliant addition).
Facebook seems to be hosting most of the tribies – and few people really seem to access this site – is this being mulled over as the next phase opens?
