Bula Sia.
I can’t believe another week has passed on Vorovoro. I’ve realised that the days here sometimes seem to go very slow, yet the weeks go by really fast. So I’m making the most of every day here!
The week kicked off last weekend wth Lights Out Fiji, part of the worldwide Earth Hour Celebrations. Over 2800 Cities, over 83 Countries, including 829 landmarks worldwide, switched off their lights between 8.30pm and 9.30pm on Saturday Night. Earth Hour started in 2007 when 2.1 Million people in Sydney switched their lights off. Last year 50 million people across 400 cities took part. It was expected that in 2009, over 1 Billion people would take part.
So on Vorovoro myself and Amy created a Sustainability themed Trivia Quiz for the tribe. So we switched our lights off at 8.30, and sat around the fire to do the quiz. It was a really good night!
The big project on the island this week has been finishing off the dam. So late last week we started carrying up bags of sand, in order to start plastering the wall this week. We plastered the reservoir side of the wall on Tuesday, just in time for Wednesday.
We had really bad weather on Wednesday, where it literally did not stop raining all day. The good news about this was that when we went up to the dam on Thursday morning, it was full! Infact it was so full it was overflowing over the top of the wall! So the dam is working, and now we just have to plaster the other side of the wall, and connect some pipes up from the dam, down into the village, so during the dry season, we can use the water from the dam to water the gardens.
This week myself and Tale built a shelf for the fridge so we can store more food and stop food getting squashed. In our daily cultural classes we’ve also been learning more about the language, and also some more songs.
Yesterday was the weekly school trip to Mali District School, which is always the highlight of my week. This week we made Bracelets with some of the kids in their Arts + Crafts classes, using coloured string from old hammocks. We also used an educational laptop that the tribe has and some of the tribemembers used it to teach the kids maths games. The Green Club at the school is also making great progress with Corn, Beans and Cabbage growing really well.

Looking forward to a relaxing weekend. Next week is Easter so im about to search the local shops for some Easter Eggs!
Keep a look out for some more Wavu Webcasts that Im working on!
Vina’a Moce.

Another good blog, cheers James. Great to see the school’s best rugby player (IMO), using the computer, and also funny to see that Save took his trusty ring to the dam for a swim! Lol.

Good stuff tribe… only wish I was there.
