THE DAM IS FINISHED!!!!

After 7 months of hard work, hundreds of sandbag runs up the hill, loads of concrete, and lots of help from tribe members and the Mali District, the dam has finally been completed! On Wednesday Tui Mali came to officially open the tap in the gardens behind the kitchen, connected to a very long pipe up to the dam. Team Fiji did an amazing job in decorating the gardens for the event. Leavi even poured some of the water on everyones heads! It’s incredible tot hink that the whole dam project has been created all my hand, without any of the machinery we would use back home for similar projects.

Last Sunday a few of the tribe members organised a fantastic Treasure Hunt for the tribe which was lots of fun! I was actually the default winner! My winning streak continued later in the week when we had a Badminton Tournament. We all had codenames – mine was Chronic (because I was chronically bad the day before the tournament) and I was partnered with Bob. 00Sexy and Black Mamba looked like the team to beat, while Ace and Ghost, and Barbie and Shell, struggled to win a game. Crazy Beads and Crazy Train played well. After rain interrupted play, we couldn’t play the finals, so after a complicated scoring tally, it was announced that myself and Bob we’re the winners!

After a continuous flow of Aussie’s on Vorovoro in the past few weeks, I am now the sole Australian on Vorovoro, amongst a majority of English people. Some people might think this would be a nightmare – but it’s not as bad as it sounds!

Unfortunately I have been feeling a bit ill this week so I have had a bit of a quiet week. I’ve been working on some new Wavu Webcasts which im really excited about.I’ve taken a few days off drinking kava too, and surprise surprise – my crazy dreams have stopped!
Thursday night a few of us went out with Api for some night fishing. Unfortunately we didn’t catch anything. Api said the fish were all at a nightclub. But it was a really clear night so we could see lots of stars.

Tevita has again been working really hard in the gardens this week, building more paths in the fijian village. It’s starting to look like a maze. I’m worried I’m going to get lost on the way home at night!

Yesterday we went to the school. I helped the 5+6 class to put the signs we made last week into the gardens, which are really starting to come along. The main water tank at the school is leaking to, so myself and a number of the kids got inside to check where it was leaking, and were hoping to patch up the leak and clean the tank out next week. Tribemembers read books with the kids, played some dominoes and puzzles as well as some Soccer and Rugby. As always the kids sang for us which is truly amazing. They also performed a few meke dances and the tribe got up to jin them for a few. Theres one called the Ukelele Song which the kids go crazy for – theres a freestyle dance part and some of these kids are just hilarious!!
So it’s been an exciting week on Vorovoro and I’m sure another fun filled week lies ahead!

Vina’a va’a levu!

Hallo James!
Translation:I am very enjoyed, that the Dammprojekt has been finished an d is successful. i haven’t believed on it. I am away from VV since 4 weeks and I am very surprised, how much new things and projekts are running in the meantime.
