Chief Blog - Week 3

Bula Sia everyone,
All was strangely quiet in the Grand Bure on Monday as we gathered around the tanoa and awaited justice. A distant siren grew ever closer as Crimestopper marched in the accused, shackled in palm leaves as they faced judge and jury in the trial the people are calling The Tribe vs the Frogbomber.
JUDGE: ‘Lucas James Cahill, you stand accused of planting a frog in Chez’ bed, how do you plead?’
LUCAS: ‘Not guilty’
JUDGE: ‘Jim Michael Kerridge you stand accused of aiding and abetting a minor in aforementioned case, how do you plead?’
JIM: ‘I’m innocent your honour’
The case played out with outstanding legal representation for the prosecution from Elliot, who ensured justice won out. It was a toughly fought case which heard testimony from numerous witnesses including late video evidence from the frog himself who pointed a webbed finger at Ben Keene.
The week continued on a high as we welcomed back Tevita our Community Manager, the return of his strength, heart and voice keeping bilos raised and spirits soaring. We also saw the return of J Dub infamous tribe member number 99 who has been lighting up the island with electrical wizardry, Ipod shelters and other technological miracles.
Friday saw the last day of term for the kids at Mali school, we were honoured to present them with a full netball kit courtesy of tribe members Beccy and Mark, vinaka vaka levu for the amazing generosity. The kids played even better than usual and the tribe returned happy and exhausted and most definitely beaten.
On Saturday we celebrated a week’s hard work with a Sulu Heroes party, with appearances from Rave Girl, Grog Goblin, Music Man and Wonder Gwa. I do believe island fever has truly kicked in.
So shelters for celebrations have gone up, and await palm leaves and decoration. Meke skirts are being woven and await dancers to wear them and the invitations have gone out to the villages, businesses and friends who have helped make the last 3 years such a success. By this time next week we’ll be ready to party.
Time passes so quickly on Vorovoro but sitting with Tui Mali on his porch sharing vudi (cooked banana) and drinking grog I found a moment to reflect on this unique opportunity to work and live alongside people who are as generous with their time and culture as with their smiles and laughter.
Vinaka vaka levu.
Moce!

nearing festivities mean an advantage for frog bombers…this also means chief charlotte should invest in some pegs…
