Eat five times a day and chill in the hot sunshine

Hi everyone you are probably gonna get bored of me writing the same old stuff soon. Spend most days chilling in the sun in a hammock in the shade by the shore watching the world go by it is oh so blissful.

I think at last I am learning to keep cool in the heat by finding the shade and the breeze as much as possible and drinking lots and lots of water as you sweat so much all day and night. I have been taking waterfall showers when ever I can as that is nice and cold but unless we get more rain soon I wont get any more as it will dry up.

I am really enjoying it despite the heat they people are just so fantastic and welcoming.

Last week after we were in Labasa to shop we found out we were to be going to Tui Malis house for grog later so Andy and I had to go and get Sulus as we didn’t have one with us. We had a really nice time there and after we got the bus to Malau to meet Johnny with the boat to go back home.

I am been trying first hand Fijian medicine first of all for the tummy bug which although I did have it I think my problems now are the diet lots of fruit veg and pulses!!! On friday I tried a really good trick which was to walk on the rocks at the waters edge which I thought were dry – wrong after a spectacular fall which resulted in a badly bruised knee and hand I have been experiencing Fijian massage. It is the most amazing treatment hurts like hell at the time even worse than my friend Louises sports massage!!!

After a few days of massage the bruising has almost gone and no pain unless I try to do something with the hand involving the thumb or kneel. No pain just not full function yet but hopefully by the time I have to leave this beautiful place it will be.

We have two new people sharing our vale two lads from Bentham near Manchester who have been traveling since October they came for a week but after two days are already planning to stay longer.

This weekend I am going to stay with Tui Mali and his wife and going to spend some time with Kini and her family too which will be great. I am going to church with Kini to hear the choir which Semesa sings in.

This is truly and amazing place. I can’t believe we will be leaving in a week and a half.

Bye for now talk again soon.

Val, enjoy reading your blog. Whenever we got a runny tummy in Fiji we would use the BRAT diet, which consists of no food for 24 hours, only water, then bananas, rice, apples, and tea for a couple days. Usually worked quite well. This is something I picked up while I was in the Peace Corps in Nadi.

Bula sia
Thanks for the advice greatly appreciated. I would normally starve for 24 hours in this situatiom in UK but I was advised not to starve but to take fijian medicine before I ate. I was given the juice of egg plants leaves three times a day for a couple of days, then when that didn’t work the fijians suggested a drink made from grated cassava before each meal for a day but that didn’t seem to work either. I was then given smoked cassava root to chew including the black crunchy skin so very dry and tough to eat. None of these helped I have to say no-one suggested the BRAT diet though may be it was a Nadi method. Now I am back home I am taking lactobacillus as I think that the prolonged problem has depleted my normal gut flora I am hoping this will work.
