It’s proven – Tribewanted inspires positive change far beyond the island community!!

Hello Tribewanted Members
You may remember at the beginning of 2010 some of you participated in a questionnaire as part of my research exploring whether our attitudes and behaviour towards the environment, sustainability and the way we live can be influenced by travel experiences.
The research is now complete (currently unpublished), and in brief concluded that yes, the experiences encountered while travelling can have a positive impact on our own behaviour towards the environment and sustainability both during the experience and after. Attitudes and behaviour changed towards water and chemical use, the food we eat, a desire to spend more time in the natural environment and the amount of waste we produce, to name a few.
However, what’s more interesting is the broader impact this had not only on ones own attitudes and actions towards sustainability when returning home, but the way in which it created changemakers. That is people who wished to share their new found knowledge and influence the attitudes and behaviours of those around them, including friends, family, work colleagues and the local community.
The exciting part about these findings is that Tribewanted and travel experiences have the opportunity to have a positive impact on the environment and sustainability that goes far beyond that achieved at destination. There is an opportunity not only to help shape a more sustainable future for the travel industry, but also to create tribes for change that spread far beyond the reaches of the island community on Vorovoro, to cities and global communities, creating a more sustainable future for us all.
For more details about the findings here is a link to the summary. If you have any questions or would like to discuss in more detail please feel free to contact me at "samanthatyers@gmail.com ":null
So, thanks again to all those who participated in the questionnaire, without you there would not have been a thesis!! And good luck to Ben and the new tribe on Sierra Leone…. Hope to see you there! SAM
