Bula sia!

So i have been off Vorovoro for around a week now, and I must say – It was a sliggght culture shock; what with flushing toilets, abundant electricity, concrete, cars – and cold weather!!

I am currently in Auckland, NZ. Its pretty nice here, a good way to sink back in to real life again! Been doing plenty; shopping, sightseeing, museums and jumping off the tallest building in the southern hemisphere..not bad for a weeks work! Went out drinking for the first time in 2 months last night..clubbing till half 4 with a bus to catch at 7 was never going to end well! So im hanging, around in Auckland for another day now!

I have been feeling homesick for my lovely little piece of paradise, I don’t think I’ve ever been as happy as when I was on that small island – but I’m turning it to a positive, not being sad for what I left behind, but happy for what I gained while on the island!

In my last week, which seems so long ago now, we finished up all of the projects which we had started at the beginning of the month.

Kime spent hours working on fixing up the Hammocks, repairing the holes which had been caused through years of wear. Now the Hammocks look beautiful, and you can sit in them without worrying about falling out the hole in the middle! We finished up the signs and put them up around the Hammock area, cleared out the wood shed and made the place look pretty in time for a team quiz on the Saturday night! Everyone who was on the Island joined in, and we had a beautiful trophy made by Pupu for the occasion which would go to the winners. We had a lot of fun, Stacey and Camilla just giggling rather than answering questions, Tale, Api, Rob, and Ian sat on the grog mat with some Kava behind the Hammocks, to christen the re-opening, a lot of good questions, and some very amusing answers!

Tanoa park, after being cleared the week before by the Mali Sharks rugby team, had it’s re-opening game; which I have some brill photos of I will try to upload when I get a fast enough connection. Needless to say, (with my prowess and skill) my team won 6-2! A lot of fun, with everyone from Poasa to Lucas joining in!

My final day was amazing, Sevu sevu day, probably the busiest one we had since I arrived on the island! Me and Ian took part in the Chief handover ceremony which was really amazing and special to be a part of, and we drank until the island was out of kava!!

vina’a va’a levu Vorovoro,

my new home,

I will never forget the amazing time I spent here!!

Jade,

We miss you, Marama! But are so happy to hear that have adjusted well to the culture shock of the outside world.

Enjoy the rest of your travels, and keep in touch!

Loloma,

Jenny
