Monday Funday in Camp Vorovoro ends in victory for Tale’s Tigers
Forget the World Cup 2010, say ‘Moce’ to the NZ Rugby World Cup 2011 and don’t even bother with London Olympics 2012 because The Tribewanted Monday Funday Games July ’10 is where it’s at….
At the sound of the conch, the tribe gathered on the historic athletics pitch behind the Grand Bure in preparation for the ensuing display of sporting prowess.
Games Master Chief Ian split the tribe into three fierce teams headed by Team Fiji’s finest sportsmen: Namani’s Army, Tale’s Tigers and Boso’s Bunenes.
The opening game was the muscle-pumping, face-reddening, grass-ripping Tug-of-War. After losing to both the Army and the Bunanes, the Tigers bowed to defeat and Boso’s Bunenes tugged to victory, taking half the pitch with them.
Next up, Hoop-La, revealed disappointing aiming skills by the tribe. Once again the Tigers failed to perform and the Bunenes scooped the gold. Things were looking promising for the Bunenes until the dreaded Sack Race. Only the strongest and fastest competitors were picked for this one and finally Tale’s Tigers began to creep up the leaders board, taking first position.
A game of Pirates is always good fun, whereby each team begins with a number of objects and the team members take it in turns to run to the other teams’ stations and steal one object at a time.
After a lot of panting and puffing, when the final whistle blew Tale’s Tigers once again took the gold. Water Balloons ended in a tie between the Tigers and the Bunenes when all three teams got soaked after failing to catch their balloons without them bursting.
After Over and Under and Chief’s risqué new game of Pass the Card (see photos), Tale’s Tigers looked set to take the trophy. They were threatened momentarily by Namani’s Army’s impressive performance in Snake (similar to dodgeball but the teams have to stand in a conga line whilst they dodge those flying balls from the other teams) and Water Boy 2 where there was some definite dodgy rule stretching (you know who you are Liavi!) by the Bunenes.
However, the Tigers rose to the challenge and remained strong in the games finale Mega Relay. With a glorious seventy-eight points, Tale’s Tigers took the much deserved gold winning not one but two bars of chocolate, graciously (ahem) presented to them by the losing team.
