Irina Roesch's January 2009 Chief Manifesto

Irina Roesch By Ira, Northamptonshire, UK Posted 19 Dec 2008

Why would I like to be Chief?

I came to Vorovoro for 8 weeks without having a clear understanding what Tribewanted is all about. After being on the island for few days everyone was saying I will never leave the island, especially after being here for such a long time like me. And I have to say, it’s right, I don’t.

Becoming Chief would be a fantastic opportunity to experience the Tribe life from different angle and be involved in developing of the island from the earlier stage. Meet people from different countries and share about my experience on the island and happiness with them.

What, other than my skills, makes me the right person for the job?

The first 2 months gave me very good understanding about the Tribe life, Tribewanted, Island and Fijian culture. Having people from all around the world sometimes it can be difficult to achieve goals. Understand and respect Fijian culture is the key in Fiji. After being here for few weeks I’ve got the feeling and idea how to deal and communicate with different cultures.

What would I achieve as chief?

We are in the middle of the rain season and January will be one of the wettest months.
To ensure enough water during dry season one of my targets would be to finish the waterfall project and lay pipes from the waterfall to the village.

Another projects:

  • provide each member of Team Fiji with safety equipment: gloves, helm, safety glasses

  • “Decorate” the area around Tribe village. Plant fresh flowers and “repair” grass

As chief, I will be given a small pot of money with which to leave my legacy. How will I spend it?

  • Waterfall project: spend money for pipes and sealing materials

  • Lockers with safety equipment for Team Fiji

Tell us something interesting about yourself…

I was born in Kazakhstan and lived there 12 years before moving back to Germany.
Now I live in the UK, BUT my home is Vorovoro.

In one sentence, why should I be chief?

I have got THE smile ;-)

Liebe Irina!
Da Du schon so lange auf VV bist, weißt Du, was notwendig ist, was benötigt wird. Du bist sicher eine gute Bürgermeisterin(chief)!
