Bula Sia!

My stay on Vorovoro was too short but full of happy memories. I was moved and enlightened in many ways. Going to a remote desert island seemed idyllic, exotic…coconuts, ocean, hammocks, sunsets and it was just that and more! What I wasn’t prepared for was the transition from working 6 days a week in a high pressure job where my mobile phone does not stop ringing all day and all night to a completely different pace of life. I spent a week away from most of my habits-no phone, no blackberry, nothing to buy, no advertisements. My mind felt like it was at rest, free from the consumer frenzy. I had no strange urge to be somewhere else. I didn’t know what to do with myself at first but it quickly became very soulful.
Thank you to all the warm, hospitable team who welcomed me with open arms and sincerity. Having experienced other diverse cultures around the globe, nothing quite compared to my beautiful Fijian family. Their happy spirit was infectious. I felt like I belonged.
The Tribewanted project is truly inspirational. It was a thrill to be part of it even though I spent most of my time hanging out in the kitchen with Va and Emily or sleeping in one of the hammocks. Jim, I hope that means I’m part of the hammock society now! I realized the importance of sustainable living and how achievable and simple it can be. I am now more aware of things I have taken for granted. The issues we have created can be overcome and each one of us can make a difference.
Hopefully I will return in September to contribute some of my gardening and culinary skills. I’m hanging out to make coconut fudge with Va. And all on Fiji time!
Vorovoro-Vinaka!!!
So Giles, do I now get my Tribewanted pendant?
Love,
Jo (Johanna)
