Ok so where to start. If you are to do one thing in your life let it be Tribewanted Vorovoro. I have just recently arrived back in Scotland from Vorovoro and the best way to describe how I feel is ‘Heart broken’. I have never in my life experienced something like this island. Somewhere that there is so little but everyone is so happy, somewhere where you are not judged the way you are back home and finally somewhere where you are always smiling and laughing no matter what the weather is like.

During my time on Vorovoro I was very lucky as I had a great bunch of tribe members. You know who you are, one of which who is running for chief – Dan, so if you have not already voted for him do it now. He is an amazing guy with so much vision and talent to give, never mind he can also cook, he is best for the job and truly is ‘Dan the man by name, Dan the man by nature’.

It is hard to explain Vorovoro and why it is so amazing, but I shall try. For me these are just a few things that made this island truly paradise. Firstly, ‘Team Fiji’. All these guys are amazing people and anyone going to Vorovoro should definitely try and get to know them individually. They all bring something very special to the island, from skills to their laughs to their jokes. For example Save, Save is a very interesting man. He can turn his had to anything, soooooooooo talented. He usually teaches Meke and Fijian language classes, this is also along with building, singing, playing guitar and carving some beautiful work. Ok then there is Sosi. I got on very well with Sosi and this is because of his kind nature and big heart. Sosi whispers everything and if he is not on the grog mat he will be watching a film somewhere – a very good film buddy. He is also vice president of the Hammock Society – ‘GO HAMMOCKS’. These are just two of the team Fiji members, but trust me they are all soooooo interesting in their own little way.

So there is also a kind of behind the scenes team, consisting of Amy, Giles, Ben and Jim (there may be more, but these guys were present during my time). All these guys made my time on the island that bit better. Amy works so hard for the tribe and doesn’t stop. She deserves a long break. However she definitely knows how to have fun and joined in on all our ‘social’ tribe events, such as, blind date, pub quiz and family fortunes, she made me laugh a lot. There is also Ben. Ben contributes a lot to the tribe and has left a bit of a sustainability impression on me. He is such a talented guy, he writes amazing songs and has some ‘super hero’ guitar skills. The most impressive thing he did when I was on the island though was make a paint brush out of coconut husk and bamboo with his feet, yes with his feet – insane. Giles is also a great asset to the tribe. He is so full of energy and always has a happy smile on his face. He takes ‘4peak challenge’ and trust me it’s not easy, but he makes it fun instead of painful. Finally there is Jim, the island gaper. Well what can I say about Jim apart from he does nothing…………only joking Jim. Jim can entertain you for hours with his talent of knowing useless pieces of information – ask him to explain the milky bar story it is so funny, but why would you know it?  He is also president of the Hammock Society so is great to chill with in the hammocks. Ok after these guys the kitchen staff definitely needs to get mentioned. They are all truly amazing especially for being able to cook what they do in such a basic kitchen.

While you are on the island you will also have a chief, again I was very lucky to have such an upbeat, friendly, funny and social chief. Your chief will make your trip also and Chief Tom truly did.

Right if all this has not tempted you yet to venture to Vorovoro then picture this. Waking up to find on your door step a beach where in the morning the water is so still, where you can watch the sunrise over a gorgeous picturesque peak and watch it set out at sea. Where at night you look up and your breath is taken by how many stars are in the sky and how bright they are and the most ‘annoying’ noise is a bird singing in a tree. Sold yet?

If anyone reads this and decides to go let me say one week is not enough. Someone wise once told me that the first week you settle in, the second week you start enjoying yourself more and the third week you fall in love. This is very true.

That is all I have or can physically write at the moment about Vorovoro. So to reference this wise, wise person once again – Breath in Love, Breath out Peace 

Heartbroken is exactly the word I would use to describe leaving such a fantastic place, and the even more fantastic people I met there. (Go Team Scotland!!)

Hi Lisa. Was it really that amazing? did you travel alone? I am in the process of selling my house, having started up my own business but could do with a trip to push me in to my new life. I loved your blog and can feel myself clicking the book it button!
