Also, this is the place to share behind-the-scenes information. The story of Tribewanted doesn’t just happen on the island – what has it been like online and off the island?
Synopsis:
Programme 2. The Island of Vorovoro is open for business, and the first 13 members of this 21st century internet “tribe” are living and working alongside an ancient Fijian tribe. Led by 26 year old Ben Keene they are now working together to tackle their first major construction project – building a traditional Fijian house, which will be one of the biggest in Fiji.
As these two tribes settle in to life on the Island, relationships start to build, but a fire breaks out and this crisis causes a power struggle, which ends in tears, and staff member Becky is forced to make a tough decision.

so far…very moving…
I’m shocked that after two episodes there are not 5000 happy people, gloating over how they managed to snap up the memberships. Loving the show, loving the concept… keep up the good work.
PS how do you put out an island fire with 20, 330ml cola bottles??
Lol – I think that was my favorite part of that episode, Ash. I just let out a huge guffaw when he added in they were working with like plastic bottles of water… us tribe members that have been here awhile have been wondering why more people haven’t signed up either – but we don’t mind too much! It has allowed me to go to the island with less than than 20 people there twice – and plenty of time alone on the empty beach in the waterfall shower!
I felt for Becky. She did her best. I think she was right to try to evacuate the people. They were potentially in danger and those that wanted to stay and fight the fire chose to.
I’m glad things were looking up by the end of the episode.
I have been a member since the early stages of this, before September 06…and I must admit, that I had yet to realize how much more work is being done behind the scenes…thanks for all the hard work to everyone and I am sooooooooo happy to be a part of this ;)
Bula Tribe,
First the fire, Me and John Wright see the fire from the point far from the village etc. The fire was started by Tui’s brother to kill ants in his kasava plantation. All we had to put it out was bottles lying on the beach and we used more than 20 in all but we used the 20 we found many ,many times, ask John Wright. Second we reported the fire and planned to return with the rest of the tribe to check etc.
Now Becky, she never left because of just the fire, yes that was the tip of the iceberg, but she left for many reasons one being she was not doing what she was employed to do ( Tribe TV) I’ll let her tell you the rest. I never wanted her to leave as did Ben Again I’ll let her tell her side.
The 5 others that stayed with me, will as I, stand by our decision to stay, the Fijian family where fighting the fire , so why should we , part of the same family run and hide, I stand by it and I am still proud I did.
Other than that I think Ben and Shine have told a very true account of what went on and I am both proud of Ben and being a Tribe member. I feel honoured to have been a first footer and all my first foot Tribe.
You should all be proud to be a member too and being a gambling man I bet that the 5000 is only a stones throw away.
Vinaka vaka levu all Tribe members and Shine for a great job.
Poques xxx
I loved the fact that, not only did I recognise people in episode 2, my parents and some friends recognised tribe members too! I loved watching the bure being built and was amazed that it was built without any actual plans! It was sad seeing Becky leave – She did what she was told by getting people to evacuate but I can understand where Poques is coming from by saying he had to stay. I’m not sure what I would have done.
Yes, the fire episode in the BBC doc doesn’t unfortunately tell the whole story. Here’s an extract from the book of “my version of the days events” http://www.telegraph.co.uk/earth/main.jhtml;jsessionid=JFARQM2WP1QX1QFIQMGCFGGAVCBQUIV0?xml=/earth/2008/01/29/eatribe129.xml
I missed the first 20 mins so i literally turned on in the midst of all the action. Tensions seemed really fraught but I was impressed with the way it was handled all the same. Re: paid membership, if others are anything like me then it’s not the membership that’s a problem – it’s the flights. It seems a shame to travel all that way and not see some more of the world as well, like Oz so it’s a case of planning and deciding before taking the plunge. But i will do at some stage when i decide how long I can get there for.
