Dream Foundation Mali School Wiring Project

The Tribewanted Dream Foundation (TWDF) is pleased to announce its first project and we need your help to raise the funds to support it. I’m sure you’ll all agree the school will be a great starting point.

As you know, the tribe has developed a special bond with the Mali District School since our arrival in Fiji. We began by donating books to the library, and then, as the collection grew, we built shelves to accommodate the books. Kind donations have grown to include sports, music and art equipment, and many tribe members have enjoyed participating in lessons. Now it is time to take the next major step, to help improve the lives and education of the community.

The school has managed without the use of electricity, but having recently come into possession of a generator, they would greatly appreciate some assistance in wiring the school and its buildings. These include class rooms, hostel, teacher’s quarters and rest rooms.

There are a number of great benefits to be gained in the wiring of the school:

Powering computers
  • With regular use of computers, students will acquire the essential computer skills needed to go on to secondary education.
Lighting
  • Security lights will be available for the welfare of students and teachers
  • Teachers will have the opportunity to do more work at night
Further education
  • Teachers will be able to take extra classes with students in the evenings. This will benefit those students taking external exams such as the FILNA (Fiji Islands Literacy & Numeracy Assessment) and the Fiji Eighth Year Examination.
Benefiting the community
  • The school will be able to have Community Awareness Programmes (CAPS) for the parents at night.
  • Parents will be able to hold PTA meetings.
  • The Mali school will be able to host the Labasa Fijian Teachers Association meetings.

Maintenance
It has been proposed that maintenance of the generator will be provided by the school management board.

Generator fuel
The TWDF is currently discussing this matter and the goal is to find ways of helping the school management board to provide their own source of funding for their on-going fuel costs.

Funding costs
The estimated costs for wiring all school buildings, materials and labour are:
Fiji dollars $6,700.00 = approx £2,117.00 = US $4,184.00
