Between 2006 and 2011 the island was leased and run by Tribewanted. We built a sustainable tourism village complete with traditional Fijian 'bure' houses, compost loos, gardens and kitchen. In partnership with the wonderful leadership of Chief Tui Mali and his tribe, we welcomed over 2000 people for 1-4 week stays on Vorovoro over 5 years, celebrating the traditional Fijian village way of life.
The island and the project have received extensive media coverage, including a five-part BBC documentary called Paradise or Bust.
The project was handed over to Tui Mali and the community in 2011. It now opens to school groups and local visitors.
