Tribewanted is about people and what they can accomplish when they rally around a common goal. What is great is that those who participate can do so at their own level, whether it's full time, volunteer based, for one week or one month, and from the island, from their computer, or from a hammock on the beach.

Dear Tribe,
I am writing to you today from the solar house in Sierra Leone. After nearly a year of discussing a new partnership with Vorovoro, Fiji, we have decided it makes the most sense to step-back from the management of the project and hand over the infrastructure to the local community. I have written to Tui Mali and the Mataqali this week to communicate this.
Professionally for Tribewanted it is the right decision. Personally it was a harder one to make.
Vorovoro was always ambitious – we agreed a lease in 2006 that was, in hindsight, too expensive putting …

It’s been 4 exciting years of highs and lows, of teaching and learning, …

Jade’s Chief Manifesto!

VOTE for Jade

Why would you like to be Chief?
Coming to Vorovoro as a tribe member, I immediately fell in love with the place – the greeting “welcome home” resounded in my ears, and I really felt it. It’s hard to describe what makes Vorovoro such an amazing place, but I think it starts with the friendliness, of team Fiji, the tribe itself, Tui Mali, and everyone else from the neighbouring villages. It’s the sound of the waves, a constant backdrop to the daily activities, the activities themselves – whether that’s catching fish, cooking …

RIP Leavi Api (aka Crimestopper), poster boy for a happy life

I woke this morning to find a note from Ulai to Jimmy and I explaining that Tui Mlai had called him to say that Leavi, known to many of us as ‘Crimestopper’ had passed away peacefully last night at home in Vuo village with his family at his side.
This is a shock. Not because Leavi was getting older (somewhere between 60 and 70?!) and more regularly sick but because for those of us lucky enough to meet this man would find hard to believe that he could be without life, without bula.
I know many of you …

Wednesday morning, I sat on the plank seat of the boat, huddled in my rain jacket against the cold rain spitting from the sky, as Poasa carefully navigated us to the far side of Mali Island to the small village of Vesi. Seated beside me was Keresoni, the Mali Peace …

How Vorovoro Gets It's Juice!

Sustainable eco tourism….. That was the goal in Sept 2006 when the first tribe members stepped onto Vorovoro. Over the past 4 years the tribe members have helped with a number of different projects, all in the name of sustainability. One of the bigger projects has been to get a power source onto the island that is from a renewable source. Prior to the donation of the Wind/Solar unit by Eco-tricity in August 2007, there was no electrical power generation on Vorovoro, except for a small petrol unit operated by Poasa and family. The Eco-tricity Hut is home to our …

Fair trade is an attempt to slow down economic activity to match the pace of culture; it is commerce with a conscience. For those of us who travel, it doesn’t take long to realize that the resilience of culture will wear thin and eventually break when it is made to …

Well what can you say about Vorovoro that hasn’t already been documented by so many like-minded people? Well, nothing, that’s the simple answer, because Vorovoro leaves you completely speechless.

But here is my story nonetheless…

I went through a slightly different route to get onboard with Tribewanted and that was through Feejee Experience, who offer a trip called the ‘Tribal Loop’. What an incredible experience. You are driven around Viti Levu (The main island) over a minimum of four days, I only took the four day option due to time constrains. The guide (Cam) taught us a lot …
