Sustainable eco tourism….. That was the goal in Sept 2006 when the first tribe members stepped onto Vorovoro. Over the past 4 years the tribe members have helped with a number of different projects, all in the name of sustainability. One of the bigger projects has been to get a power source onto the island that is from a renewable source. Prior to the donation of the Wind/Solar unit by Eco-tricity in August 2007, there was no electrical power generation on Vorovoro, except for a small petrol unit operated by Poasa and family. The Eco-tricity Hut is home to our …

Andina ’09 when I first heard about it I was very interested, however didn’t sign up right away as I do usually for things like this. It actually took months, and finally an older guy at work said to “stop being a P#$%Y and book your damn trip”. I’m glad …

Terror on the Waves!

Hi guys

Sorry I’ve been so quiet the last few weeks. I had a major setback a couple of weeks ago, which looking back is pretty funny, but then was a major issue that had me in a sulky mood! I was coming back from Vorovoro in my little punt at sunset, a trip I usually really look forward to since I can surf the waves home and get there in a third of the time, and disaster struck! About 500m off Vorovoro, I hit something soft, maybe a big fish or a shark, I’m not sure, but in …

Vorovoro's Average Water Consumption - 6 litres per person

Gini Beavis By Gini, , Posted 26 Sep 2010

When I first arrived on Vorovoro, like most people I did not think about my water consumption a great deal. Whilst cleaning my teeth I
would turn off the tap or I would try to wash clothes only when I had a full load but that really was as far as it went. As Vorovoro relies solely on rain water, water consumption was an obvious topic to cover when we created are 4 year Anniversary board. I was quite amazed to discover that on average tribe members on Vorovoro use only 6 litres of water per day (for drinking, washing, …
