LOCALLY filmed television series will go to air here after an agreement reached with the British Broadcasting Corporation.

New television station Mai TV secured exclusive rights to the five part series Tribewanted about the on-line community on Mali Island.

The series aired in the United Kingdom in February and features the people of Mali Island off Vanua Levu and their daily relationships with hundreds from around the globe.

Mai TV chief executive officer Richard Broadbridge says the show is one the best he has seen.

The new company also has rights to the CSI Franchise, Survivor Fiji, Manoa Rasigatale’s Footprints, MAI Corner for kids, Stanley Simpson’s daily programme, the SPC’s Pacific Way, a Hindi Movie weekly and a music program MAI VODAMUSIC.

“Some aspects of this show may shock our viewers I’ve never seen this type of thing done here. It’s certainly an eye opener and will give us all a better understanding of our place in this universe”, Mr Broadbridge said.

Tribewanted co-founder Ben Keene also expressed excitement saying he was more nervous than when before it was shown in the UK.

“I know there are parts of the documentary that are quite tough to watch when there were problems on the island and how the political coup affected us. It will be very interesting,” he said.

Keen said he would call Tribewanted: Vorovoro an experiment in a new kind of eco-tourism and social networking. “I don’t see it as a clash of anything. Sure, there were some big challenges in the first year which you will see on the documentary but I think what the mataqali have proved is that Fiji really can be a world leader in some quite unique areas if it wants to be”.

MAI TV begins its tests from next week with its launch date to be announced shortly.
