A week on the beach

Well I’ve been and come back.

On my first day back at work a colleague asked what I’d missed the most while I was away, and I couldn’t think of anything!!

After a couple of days I remembered that I had missed the sound of the flush when I used the loo. I was quite happy with the compost loos, I’m just conditioned into not leaving the bathroom without flushing.

Now that I’m back I miss the rooster crowing in the mornings, and the sound of the fishermen drumming on the side of the boat to scare the fish into the nets. I miss plantain and fresh fish and tiny green bananas, I miss the warm waters of the lagoon at the end of the day. I miss waking up on the beach to a bright sunny morning (I live in England, it has rained every day and I haven’t seen the sun since I got back).

But most of all I miss the friendly faces, and the greetings of “Ow de morning go?”

The most obvious things lacking during my week away were grey skies and grumpy faces, and I have to say I didn’t miss them at all.
