Response to Marama Linda
Tags:
Hey, so obviously Linda has written and this is my response. (i had a similar face to face conversation with Linda about all this before she left)
With regards to prices for boats. If a tribe member tries to arrange something personally, not through us, they we can have no control over prices.
With regard to the kitchen being stocked. Fijian culture is not one of ownership, but of shared living. Occasionally this gets stretched to the letter on the island as things get borrowed all the time. This is obviously frustrating but something we are constantly working and communicating on to improve. This has been seriously discussed at all levels internally and big improvements have been made recently.
There is naturally going to be attraction between the younger Fijian team and visiting tribe. We have recently discussed this as well internally and stress the need for a mature and responsible attitude. This has, in my opinion, been taken on board really well.
Illness, living in a tropical environment is tough on the body. However i feel confident in saying that we gave Linda as much support as we could to help her through.
Living and working here with 2 very polar cultures towards a common goal is extremely challenging and requires constant work, communication and patience. Linda has identified some of the very real challenges that we face.
Both sides are constantly learning and improving how they co-operate with eachother. Of course there will be blips, show me a community that has never had a problem. But the key thing is that when a problem comes up, we identify it, discuss it and then deal with it. This is exactly how we approach everything on the island.
Lets take this into the forums
