Vorovoro Bound - days 1-3? - Travel!!!!

Travel – travel and oh yeah – did I mention travel???
4 planes – many hours of layover and a hot bumpy car ride – followed by a lovely half hour boat ride. Talk about HOT – they say it is 37c – I’m rotten at temperature conversion – but I can guarantee – after a very cold and rainy summer – this is KILLING me – is it possible to sweat to death? Water is your best friend here.
Now that I’m done whining – it is worth every second of travel and every degree of temperature. It feels like I have never left the island – even though it has been almost a year to the day.
Note to newbies – bring sunblock AND make sure it is waterproof and sweat proof. I was concentrating on bringing organic / biodegradable products – and as a result – my sunblock sweats off me very quickly – two days and I already have a deep Fajian glow..
Got to camp – over 40 hours awake and only 3 hours sleep – but kept on plugging! Managed to get my bed and mossie net set up before dark and then off for a swim / bath – HEAVENLY!!! After a bit of time for a swing on the hammock (Don’t work out – Chill out!) and then the dinner bell rang. Too hot and tried to eat – but wonderful lot here on the island – so it was nice to start to get to know folks.
GROG!! – we had an informal grog ceremony – I managed one high tide and one low tide (big cup / little cup) before I was off to bed!!! About 50 hours w/ only three hours sleep – needless to say I slept VERY well.
Tomorrow I will tell you of my first full day AND my medical adventure.
Till then – Moce!
Marie
