Tribewanted: Vorovoro

Aka David Letterman – these reasons are not in order of importance – but are very important to me and hopefully to the tribe at large:

• - To me Team Fiji is a LOT more that the locals who help us – they are FAMILY – and I’m very much missing my Vorovoro family – especially PuPu who I’ve adopted as a father (mine has been gone for only just a year now).

• - Sustainability is my middle name – my first trip here did a lot to make that happen. I would love to create a section on the website where members can post links and recommendations of green sites and products. I would also like to explore the politics and reality of getting Labasa to work on some sort of recycling initiative (other than throwing it in the river – where we later get our exercise picking it up on the beaches of Vorovoro).

• - My golden Vorovoro tan is fading and I can’t get it back without PuPu’s amazing coconut oil mossie goo!

• - Unlike the majority of the travelers to Vorovoro – I am not a teacher or a gap student – I’ve been recently downsized due to the poor US economy – so for me this is truly a ONCE IN A LIFETIME opportunity! My savings are limited – so unlike others – I cannot afford to remain unemployed and wait to come back in November or December.

• - As the first know documented “Chicken Elder” – I miss the girls (hens) and the opportunity to improve their conditions in order to maximize eggie production (and hopefully the return of Sunday eggie bread!) :)

• - I have been invested in this project since the beginning – as an early adopter in 2006 and a two time visitor to the island – I have contributed much more than finances to the island and this would be perfect next step for me on my Vorovoro / Life journey as well as give back even more to the community. As one of the early adopters in phase one – It would mean a lot to me to carry the torch and be the first Chief in phase two.

• - I am well traveled and really enjoy meeting folks from all over the world. If I can help even one person learn to love Vorovoro and experience what I will never forget – mission accomplished!

• - I am a Meke maniac!! I love the meke and am a part of the select few that know both the original six mekes taught in years one and two as well and the monkey meke (training blogs on the monkey meke to be posted soon)!

• - I’m not afraid to get dirty and roll up my sleeves to help where help is needed. As a manager of my own business I have the experience to deal with multiple personalities as well as work with project budgets and goals.

• - Marama Marie is M&M for short – so as a total political bribe – if I’m Chief I promise to bring plenty of M&M chocolates with me :)

• - I would like to go down in Vorovoro history as either the Singing Marama or even maybe the oldest Marama – remember – we women age like a fine wine and have a LOT to offer :)
