the rest of it part 2 - thanksgiving
as we had a couple of usa-ers on the island we celebrated thanksgiving with an enourmous feast. We all took a hand in preparing for the feast. I was on the pie-face team – puddings ….i was on improvising some kind of flap jack – as we didn’t have honey or golden syrup they weren’t quite the same, but tasted pretty good. and the rest of the cakes were pretty impressive, apple pie, pumpkin pie, mango&apple, pineapple upside down cake. All cooked in a kind of earth oven, so not easy on temperature control!! although after the rest of the feast i think everyone was pretty stuffed by pudding time. The locals decorated the Bure wonderfully with coconut leaves, and fresh flowers – unfortunately my pics don’t do it justice, but hopefully gives an idea. puts tinsel, plastic crap that we use to shame. if only we had these beautiful natural items to hand in london! so was full bellies all round.
slight downside the next morning – there was a burnt hole in the water tank next to the kitchen. an un put out fire must have blown towards it …on the upside it burnt the water tank rather than anything else!!
