Tribal surrogate mother Va’s cooking has aroused more than just the appetites of on-island Tribe members. This time, she’s caught the attention of the Fiji Times.

In the article Vasiti’s cooking proves a winner, the Fiji Times has Va tell her story of how her volunteering as a chef helping out with cooking on the weekends at Vorovoro has become a full time job.

Of the experience, Va says, “I enjoy the job so much … Almost every time they will ask me to cook fish miti and dalo or cassava and they will finish it because it is their favourite.”

The story also touches on Va’s background as a school head teacher, a post she has since retired from. What the story misses, however, is that it’s not just knowledge and experience that makes Va’s cooking so delicious. It’s the love and caring that she shares with everyone on the island that endears her to our hearts just as memories of her cooking evoke a pang of nostalgia in our stomachs!
