Curious about life on Vorovoro???
Ni Sa Bula!
I’m glad your curious about Tribewanted – here’s my take on the experience.
Tribewanted and Vorovoro provide an excellent opportunity to mix with a Fijian community and to learn as much as you want to about Fijian culture and traditions. Being on the island you are accepted into the family and community immediately and they will want to learn as much about you, as you do about them.
Age is irrelevant here. On the island, within the Fijian staff, the age ranges from 19 to 68, so there are many different stories to hear and a wealth of experiences to take home with you.
When people arrive on Vorovoro, they feel like its a home away from home. You will automatically bond with whoever you want, and they will welcome you with there big Fijian hearts and smiles. It really is like no other traveling experience!
We have no expectations about fitness or skill set. You come here and do want you want to do. If it means walking round the island, exploring the peaks of the island, snorkeling (amazing), or sitting with the Fijian women making mats, or helping with the construction with the young guys – then its up to you. It’s your experience, but we’re here to offer what we might think is good for you, and share our experiences with what we’ve done here. But we will make you sit in a hammock and veg out for a bit and enjoy the Fijian pace of life! The tribal village is in an area of 20 acres flat land, and then the rest is rugged, but walkable peaks – so you do whatever your fitness level lets you – and the Fijian and Tribewanted team will be here to help you. Though if you are here when school term is on, the school kids will rubbish anyone’s fitness level – the have boundless energy!
What makes this project unique is that everyone takes away their own treasured experience. It does depend what projects are happening at that time, and what other tribe members are here to share in your experience – but whenever you’re here I’m sure you’ll love it. We’ve had people from 8 to 66 on this island, and they all loved it.
A positive impact on the project? It’s not all about leaving something tangible behind. The beauty of it all is that you come and share and play a part living in a Fijian community. If it means making something little that benefits the island at the time or for the remainder of the project, or making those people around you laugh and smile and making friends, then whose to say which is the more positive impact!
Tribewanted is an amazing experience. The only hard part about it all is leaving the island.
If you do have any more questions or need any clarification then please let me know.
Kind Regards,Talo Na Yaqona
