pirates and fish

When you think pirates you probably think about tall ships and treasure in the form of gold, but pirates also steal fishes.

When boats without permits come into another countries’ waters and fish, usually with huge industrial vessels, it hurts the local subsistence fishermen. They are left with fewer and smaller fish. Here is a video by the Environmental Justice Foundation about pirate fishing in Sierra Leone.

We are talking with EJF and will try to help decrease and prevent pirate fishing with our presence in Sierra Leone.

Also, I’ve started a public facebook page all about marine science, so if you are interested in our oceans please follow along and join the conversation.

Cheers,

Mariah
