Bloggy #1
When I got to the island, I was shocked. Because apparently, I’m a city girl. But that’s not why I was shocked. I was shocked to see… well, actually,
I couldn’t see! That’s what surprised me! No lights in our hut, what-so-ever! It was very hard to unpack, get dressed and get in bed when it was that dark! When you wake up in the morning, you find it was all worth it! There is so much to do, like painting signs (I painted one that said “NO SMOKING DURING MEALS! Thank you!”),
swimming in the sea, snorkling, Bindy Bindy (A game that’s like a cross between air hockey and pool), soccer, volleyball or you can just explore! Of course, this is from the point of view of a 12 year old, so I wouldn’t really be constructing anything big, like the new Vale (Va-lay) that they are building next to the family Bure (Boo-Ray). And there are rumors of a tree house being built to sleep 8 people!
I think one of the best things about being here is meeting all the new people! Especially the Fijians! They are so nice and so enthusiastic about everything! I was on our laptop once in the grand bure, looking at photos, when Api (Like saying Happy without the H) and Tale (Ta-lay) came up and started looking at the pictures too! The first picture was of my house back in Canada, and it was covered in snow, which, of course, they don’t get here! So they were freaking out going “SNOW! SNOW! In CAN-ADA!!!” It was really funny! Then I showed them the pictures of the animals in the zoo in Tunisia, Northern Africa. As we went through the pictures, they would start to
make the sounds of the animals in the pictures! They were doing fine, until they got to the bear. “Ah! Bear! Oink! Oink!” is what Tale said “No! Meow! Meow!” is what Api said!
The things I like most about the island are: The Hammocks and the Hammock Society (Yeah Jim, Chris and Andy!!!!) I also love the people! They Fijians are sooooo cool and nice! Pupu is, like, what I don’t know maybe 60/70 or something and he is still running around with a chainsaw and jumping on trees! I also love the tree house! It
has a good hammock and a nice view! I can’t wait to see if the rumors of a tree house that will sleep 8-10 people will be true or not! I love waking up and having all my meals made for me! I am getting used to eating porridge every morning! It is good! The water is super warm and it has so much beautiful coral and fish in it!
The things I don’t like about the island are: THE BUGS! THEY ARE EVERYWHERE! The spiders here are MASSIVE! There are ones bigger than my hand! And I can’t go outside for 5 seconds without getting bitten! I’m not kidding! On one leg, from my toes to me knee, I have over 50 mozzie and sand fly bites! UGHHHH!!! Before you come to the island, make sure to stock up on mosquito repellant and Zandu Balm! This stuff is great for bites! It comes in a bottle about the size of my big toe and is only 78 cents! Everyone on Vorovoro uses it! I also hate seeing people leave, especially people like Eoin, Chris, Andy, Charlie, Elana and others! I absolutely hate the night time too! I hate having to do everything in the dark. I know we’re trying to be eco-friendly and all, but this is just ridiculous.
If you are looking for a romantic honey moon, I don’t recommend Vorovoro, but if you are looking for some fun and games, book now!

It is great to read your post Kelly, and thanks for painting the sign about not smoking. We talked about doing that when I was there a month ago but I did not get around to doing it It will make that wonderful
food taste even better.
Hehe Kelly! Your blog has made me giggle lots! Thank you so much for all your energy and enthusiasm; it was brilliant having you around. I don’t like goodbyes either, we are going to miss you and Jilly bean so much!
