Tribewanted: Vorovoro

Well, by now it’s not such a surprise…but the Tribewanted staff can’t be accused of loose lips, as they managed to pull off a huge surprise for Api and the boys with a visit from Kimbo – most of us on facebook know he is going to be working in Lautoka for Madventurer, but the gang here wasn’t sure when he was going to turn up. It’s probably best for Kimbo to put into words what a reunion of this kind felt like, but it’s a great reminder, as we’re about to say moce to some dear tribies, that one can always come home to Vorovoro.

On the Saturday prior, I met Te in Labasa for shopping at the market, and he was grinning – “he’s here” he said. I tried to play dumb. “Kimbo.” NO, he’s in Lautoka. But the Fijians have a way of knowing.

Kimbo rocked up to the beach on Tuesday with Tui Mali, just in time to get kitted out for meke and serving grog. A pro at both, he had the new tribe members wondering who the London-sun white kaiviti could be. And Tui Mali asked him to come back this Tuesday to participate in what should be a fantastic day of showing off the island community.

I’ll post another blog about the 15th, which was a stellar success, but you can see the photo of Va all kitted out for the new fan meke, having made gorgeous costumes for the girls. Kimbo played an important part in that day, too, so we waved a fond moce when he set off for his new job. ‘Naka, Kimbo!
