Hoopin' in Paradise...

so, i have donated lots of random stuff to the tribe (an early gift of twister, some toothpaste, um…), but i fully acknowledge that the two hula hoops now residing on the island are perhaps the most ridiculous. except that they bring people together, and they’re an excuse to use your body, and i’m all about both of those things.
the lovely natasha from a company called bodyhoops was kind enough to donate the two “travel” hoops, which fold down into 1/4 of their size:
and i wish i had photos from the amazing hooping under the stars campfire-side contest that kelly jay organized (sky, can you send some this way, and i’ll post?), amazingly well-DJed (‘naka andy and ollie), but we sure had some fun with those in april. and matteo had a real knack for it, in addition to his hours of practice…i’ve been told that fijians used to make hoops from pieces of hose, though i didn’t see anything like that in mali. and, you can read more about the joy of watching tui mali take his first spin in either kimbo’s blog or my own:

finally, though, since this tribe is about aspiring to better ourselves, our skils, and our world, i leave you with a thing of beauty, a video of the person who was responsible for getting me into hooping, through our mutual friend, ian – this is annie, and she’s amazing:
