This may seem a little out there but I’m trying to get my head around what I can and can’t bring to Vorovoro. Would I be allowed to bring soapnuts or as they are a seed would they be confiscated at customs on Nadi?

Realistically, Fijian customs doesn’t catch a whole lot. But if they do, and they think you are trying to bring seeds into Fiji they’d probably flip… there isn’t any chance for sprouting is there? as we definitely don’t want to bring in any invasive species or the like.

Melanie Soapnuts can be found on the large island of Viti Levu. There are a lot of plants that grows on the main island that are not in Vorovoro. Bringing any kind of seed into the country would require agricultural clearance.

I’ve done a bit more research and the black seed from inside the shell is removed, the ‘soap’ is in the shell. I suppose there always is a risk that one might slip through so I’ll make it up into solution before I come.
