what's left?

I can tell that the project has come a long way from when the Paradise or Bust was filmed. As it is very likely that I won’t be able to afford to go until next year, what sort of things will be to do during the final year of the project. A couple of weeks chilling on a tropical island sounds great but I would like to be involved in some kind of project on Vorovoro as I am passionate about the whole sustainablility issue.
Also would it not be possible to do a diary, weekly or daily of events on Vorovoro. The blogs are great but they don’t tell us online what it’s like on a day to day basis.
For when I do get there, what vegetables can be grown on Vorovoro and are seeds needed to extend the range? Would it be possible to start the process now to get permission to bring new vegetables to Vorovoro if possible?
What’s the update on the biogas?
Did I hear Ben correctly over the noise of the water, that if you’re elected chief, your stay is free??
My blog seems a little disjointed but I just have so many questions and just ask them as I think of them.

Hi Melanie… welcome to Tribe Wanted!
You can find full blown discussions currently going on in the forums for almost every one of the themes you listed above. You can use key words to search for threads at

For some short answers I can tell you that no matter what stage the project is at, there will always be things happening on Vorovoro for you to get involved with. No fear there.
Your comment about a diary is a good one, but up til now we just haven’t had reliable enough connection on Vorovoro to enable tribe members, chiefs, or even TW Staff to have a regular internet update. When they do get in to town the modems there are dial up and very slow. Fixing that is one of our big goals this year. One place to read more is http://www.tribewanted.com/forums/13/topics/1301
As for growing, we have had in depth talks about not introducing any foreign plants onto the island… but there is a discussion going on at

As for being a chief… chiefs serve 1 month terms during which they do not pay. Chiefs do pay for their regular weeks on the island once their term is over. Chiefs are also given a budget with which to conduct a legacy project.
Hope some of this helps-
Bula!!
Gilligan
Definitely echo Gilligan’s statements as he about nailed it pretty well!
Welcome to the tribe!
Right now biogas is essentially on hold, just because the tropical storms have been washing away the local villages and thus there isn’t enough pig poo yet to seed the system – hopefully soon though! Cooking bacon with pig farts!! Wahoo!
Walt
Many thanks David and Walter for your very prompt answers. Re: biogas, pigs aren’t the only ones who poo!!
