Sorry Mikie, three pin plugs in UK and NZ/OZ are different.

Yes you can charge it up on one of the sockets in the power hut. We have a limited electrical supply from the wind turbine and the solar panels. You will need an adaptor however, as Julie has pointed out.

If you get one here in the UK don’t bother with ‘travel shop’ ones they’re just overpriced. Try a cheap shop.

why would you want to take an ipod there in the first place. the whole point if you could be arsed to think about it is to get away from that sort of stuff. have u any idea what eco actually means. start generating ur own electricity then take ur ipod.

oh no i’m sorry, i stand corrected. you can actually plug ur ipod into the composting toilets. when u shit u generate power from what i here. u could run a continent never mind an island with that amount of shit.

Hey Mike, as well as everyone else.

Yes there is power there to recharge your ipods, cameras, phones and other small electronics. If you are going to be taking these items and have 12 volt chargers please bring those to the island rather then your 120 volt (American) or 220 volt (European) plug in style chargers. These are the same chargers that you would use in you car. These use less energy because the power we have on the island is 12 volts. If you require the typical wall plug in you consume 30% more by having to go through and inverter.

also, it’s worth mentioning that there are a lot of cool solar chargers available now. i brought a solar panel backpack with me when i went in sept and was able to keep the ipod charged perfectly…i’m going to do a blog post about my favorite of these, as i’ve researched a lot of them.

The Solio charger is a pretty cool and partable solar charger for phones, ipods, cameras and comes with a host of power adapters, including USB.

A little extreme maybe! I sat round the campfire one night with my ipod. It made the hairs on the back of my neck stand on end. It was an amazing feeling.

Bula!

The best adaptor to get is a 12volt car cigarette lighter style one. It is far more efficient – uses far less energy – and we have 12 volt plugs here for you to use. Just ask at Dixons or look online for an ipod 12volt adaptor, shouldn’t be a problem.

Naka!
