bites!

Vanessa Emery By Ness, London, UK Posted 13 May 2008

Its been a whirlwind since my return from Fiji…seems to be the way energy is moving around the globe right now. My heart goes out to all those affected by the recent cyclone in Burma.

All recent Tribewanted visitors know what I mean when I say ‘we got bitten alive’ by those tiny, deceptively innocent looking sandflies!!! I’ve never scratched so much in my life and I grew up in Canada where black flies and mosquitoes are part of spring and summer!

But the craziest part of this story is yet to come…24 hrs after landing back in the UK I got bitten several times by something in London and within 3 days developed a very serious leg infection!!! A week of excruciating pain when standing or walking, truck loads of antibiotics and still another week to go, and then joy of joy 2 days ago the bites started to spew forth some of the poison, details I will spare you!!! So do not think that the bugs in the tropics are any more dangerous then the bugs you find in Europe!!

I miss everyone on Vorovoro, what beautiful people you will find on the island. In all my travels around the globe never have I met such warm, open hearted people as I did amongst the Fijian’s there. On Vorovoro my soul and heart has been imprinted for life by the people I met and shared my 2 weeks with, including all the wonderful TW members there at the time. Miss you all!

Ahh you don’t want to mess with those London insects – hard as nails, that’s the way we breed ‘em!
Hope you’ve recovered. As for the bugs on Vorovoro – well, I usually suffer big time, but the citronella stuff I rubbed over my arms and legs seemed to keep most of them away
