All change - New Vale - New Chief
.... last week I went to the mangroves to help PoPo chop trees down to be used to build the new Vale …
At home I am known for my love of power tools and chopping & burning (?!) so the allure of going with PoPo (who has an AMAZING chainsaw), and muck in with the boys was simply too hard to resist…
Another tribe member Owen also came along & we took along a machette to cut down the trees old skool …..
I cut down too with the machette as PoPo watched in curious disbelief as he sliced effortlessly through his trees in seconds with his petrol monster as I hacked away for 20 minutes sweating & need deep in mud :)
BUT OH HOW EXILLERATING !!! HOW GOODdid it feel when the 20ft tree fell to the ground. PoPo, clearly impressed by my efforts (or suspended in disbelief at me expending such unnecessary effort while he smoked a fag) carved my name in a tree, saying that my name would stay in the Mangroves forever and that he was very proud of my help :)
The trees were taken back to the island and are now proudly in place …. The new Vale is looking fantastic – it’s really spacious and the boys have done a cracking job constructing it – it will be a great space to stay, and Chiefy Jim has done an excellent job managing the project.
I will be sad when he hands over his … reign? ... chiefy’ness? tomorrow, however I know Caz will also do a fine job – she has come to the island armed with loads of exciting ideas & samples to try out such as a range of eco-friendly toothpastes, and some amazing water lights.
A new chapter begins….
