I thought I’d start a blog of the things that I’m planning on taking to Vorovoro with me. I’ve been before but can’t really remember what I took that I didn’t use or what I wished I would have taken. I hope this will help other members who don’t know what to take!

I went shopping today and bought:

  • 2 x solar showers (I only went for 1 but they were on offer £3.50 each!)

  • Compact mosquito net

  • Head torch

  • Concentrated biodegradable all purpose soap (for washing clothes – I bought a pretty big bottle so I can use it again next year when I return!)

  • Nail brush (to use with the soap for washing clothes)

  • Pacamac (I’m hoping it wont rain though!)

I’ll keep updating this list as I get more things.

I still definately need to buy Vitamin B12 to keep mozzies at bay, biodegradable shampoo & conditioner, first aid things (eg antiseptic wipes, rehydration salts, paracetamol) and things for the school.

Thanks Kate…will be making notes from your list! 10 weeks to go….

Re: biodegradable shampoo & conditioner – did Ben sort anything with Pure Fiji so we could buy that when we get there rather than carry it?

PS Where were the solar showers on offer??

Kate Walker By Kate Walker, Merseyside, UK Posted Aug 24, 2008 2:43pm

Today I bought:

  • Some cap sleeved tops (girls, you need tops with sleeves in as your shoulders need covering whenever Tui Mali is around or during kava ceremonies)
  • Sunscreen – soltan apparently you only have to put it on once and it will last for 6 hours!
  • Antisceptic cream, rehydration salts & diarrohea tablets

Senga- the showers were on offer at a camping fayre just outside Liverpool. I think Ben is arranging something but not sure how far he got with it.

Bula sia Kate! Glad you are so organised and thinking ahead. The Pure Fiji Soaps are currently being made and are going to be stamped with Tribe Wanted which is very exciting! These are due to be here in about 6 weeks but Fiji Time might just kick in…hopefully they will be on the island when you arrive. (The coconut one is especially delicious and almost edible) I am sure the island won’t know what’s hit it when we all start smelling clean!

Looking forward to seeing you very soon and good luck with the rest of your island shopping!

Great news with Pure Fiji. Kate, don’t belive Soltan, they always slide off and anyway you will be swimming five times a day. Get reef shoes and tea tree oil. Wish I was joing you.

Thanks for the info Amy – hope the soaps are ready when I arrive although I totally understand the Fiji time problem!

Toolia: I’ve bought some gold glittery jelly sandels which, I hope, will work as reef shoes. I’ve also got a bottle of tea tree oil knocking around somewhere so will root that out…

Any other suggestions?

Today I bought some pencils (normal & colour), crayons and balloons for the school.

Wow Kate you’re so organised, right I need to get cracking – this list will help me no end!
I bought a pop-up geography book for the school, do you think this is okay?

Kate Walker By Kate Walker, Merseyside, UK Posted Aug 31, 2008 8:35am

Yeah I think that would be brilliant Kelly!
