Yep. But they’re small, non-threatening reef sharks (the ones you’ll see anyway). They’re only interested in chasing fish – they’ll not be very interested in you

I was out there on the reef everyday, acting like shark bate, and they did not take it, so I think they prefer fish..I have repeatedly asked Marau, our chief fisherman who goes out for a total of 8 hours a week, if sharks were a problem and he has always said no. You don’t see that many on the reef 100m off shore, just occasionally. We see them more when we go out on the barrier reef 2 miles out.

tons of white tips, too small to do any damage, there are another 5 or so smaller species you might encounter, and if an injured whale is in the water the big players will show up – tigers and bull sharks, but otherwise they aren’t too close nearby. Just don’t wear any metal to attract the sharks (necklace, etc. looks like a silver fish) and don’t carry around injured fish you’ve just speared and you should be fine. Once you are on the island there should be shark guides I’ve typed up to help you ID what you’ve seen. JAWS was all hype – enjoy snokeling with the sharks!

i love watching sharks in their natural habitat via nature programs and i know JAWS was all hype and i take the point made by tuaka about there arent many but im not sure that i want to see 1 when i am enjoying my morning swim .. hehe..
