Fred Hollows Foundation in Labasa
Every hour, someone in the Pacific goes blind. Just $25 can give them back their sight.
Kia ora tribies,
I just wanted to draw your attention to the Fred Hollows Foundation – which does amazing work through the Pacific Institute – training Pacific people to be eye doctors and preventing/correcting blindness.
The Foundation recently visited Labasa for four days, with nine doctors and nurses from Suva + four nurses from Labasa.
Dr Shereen Ayub says
“Every day, the clinic was so crowded that we could hardly make our way through. People did not leave the waiting room even to eat or drink for fear of losing their place. The queues kept growing as people turned up in the hope that they would be seen. We worked hard every day until 10pm to make sure we could see everyone but there were so many urgent cases we had to stay for one more day.”
“We are even now planning our return visit to Labasa to see all those people we had to turn away last time.”
So, check out the website: www.hollows.org and click on the New Zealand map to learn about the Foundation’s work in the Pacific.
Your donation helps people in Fiji and all over the Pacific by curing preventable blindness.
Peace and love, Hannah
