Fiji Times: "People Control Conservation"

Tribewanted may have already been featured in the Fiji Times on many occasions, but it is extremely pleasing to finally see our friends from Mali making an appearance in their own right.

The article focuses on the great work that the Macuata community has been doing in partnership with a number of organisations, including WWF, aimed at protecting their natural resources:

People Control Conservation

“WWF and partners hope the Macuata community will establish a network of protected areas that will include all habitat types in the qoliqoli, from the forest and rivers to seagrass beds, mangroves, coral reefs, deep water passages, and important breeding and foraging sites and migratory pathways for fish and other important species such as turtles and whales,” said Mrs Kesaia Tabunakawai, interim representative of the WWF South Pacific Program.

Pronounced as “matha-wata”, and it’s the name of the region/district that Mali is a part of
