Sophie T's November 2008 Chief Manifesto
Why would I like to be Chief?
I’ve been traveling and away from home for a while now and have plenty of adventure, excitement, and hammock time under my belt. I’m ready for a challenge now, and a unique one where I can immerse myself further in to the Fijian culture and understand the project from a new perspective.
What, other than my skills, makes me the right person for the job?
Being here on the island already has given me a greater understanding of the chief’s role, what it entails, and what work needs focussing on right now. I’ve built relationships with the on island team and Team Fiji so can hit the ground running, with their support.
What would I achieve as chief?
I’d like to enhance the experience of arriving on the island, and the first few days for newcomers. A big deal is made of leaving the island with a heartfelt farewell, but some new arrivals (myself included!) can feel a little lost and daunted at first. I’ve several ideas of how to work on this and have had encouraging feedback from tribe members I’ve talked to about it! There are also a few smaller projects on the island (art projects, signage etc) that have fallen by the wayside, which I’d like to get finished up to allow focus on the bigger projects, as well as keeping those tribe members who wish to be busy, busy! I’m also going to need a month to source the perfect piece of driftwood for the Hammock Society plaque… it’s a long story.
As chief, I will be given a small pot of money with which to leave my legacy. How will I spend it?
Pending anything pressing that arises during the month, I’d put my legacy toward the next water storage solution.
Tell us something interesting about yourself…

In one sentence, why should I be chief?
Kate Walker’s promised me her sparkly legwarmers to fend off evening mozzies, if I win. They’re really nice. I want them. Please vote.
