David Randall's October 2008 ChiefManifesto
Why would I like to be Chief?
To understand the workings of a Fijian village and then to learn more about their fascinating culture.
What, other than my skills, makes me the right person for the job?
I am already here in Vorovoro and therefore able to see what projects need doing. I am working closely with Paul (the September Chief) so the transition of responsibility and leadership would be a smooth one.
What would I achieve as chief?
The onward progression and momentum of the project to hold and maintain the loving, inspiring resonance of the village.
As chief, I will be given a small pot of money with which to leave my legacy. How will I spend it?
- The reed have arrived for the small bures but I would like to make sure the Grand Bure is patched up before the rainy season arrives.
- A secure storage area needs to be constructed to house the ceremonial costumes and equipment alongside the TW shop merchandise.
- Any money left over would go towards a water tank.
Tell us something interesting about yourself…
I’m a local, I was born in Labasa. I’ve spent most of my life away from Fiji as I left when I was young.
In one sentence, why should I be chief?
I’m the right man, in the right place, at the right time, to keep the continuation of the tribe’s projects going.
