An audio postcard direct from vorovoro

I’d like to introduce you to a part of The Conch called the Holler system to see if it may be of use on Vorovoro.

A holler is a short audio message you can post directly to a profile on The Conch from almost any phone in the world.

I like to think of it as an audio postcard.

For the tribe, this would allow anyone on the island to holler the online community to let them know what they’re up to. It’s much quicker than writing a blog and you can hear about adventures on vorovoro in the tribe’s own voices!

You can read more on recording a holler on The Conch blog .

It basically involves calling the Holler system on 0845 862 0017 and entering a Tribewanted unique PIN (which I’ve sent to Ben to share with anyone on the island). Then just follow the instructions and record your message.

It’s a really flexible system and could be used for ad hoc messages or maybe a weekly round up of adventures on vorovoro. It’s really up to you.

If you have any questions feel free to leave a comment on this post or send me a messsage.

Cheers

Simon

Very interesting but how does one pay for the service?

Hi Jay. The Conch makes no money from the Holler service. How much the call charge amounts to depends on your individual mobile contract (although, where possible, you can also use landlines)

If the response is positive and people are using the service, I’ll be happy to put in a Fijian phone number to reduce charges further.

Hope that helps.

Hi Simon

Where does the holler gram show up for the online members of TW to listen to?

Can we sample an already existing one?

Is the conch blog yours?

Cheers

Avril

Great stuff Ben. It’ll be a good opportunity to further test the system.

Avril – Tribewanted has a profile on The Conch (as it does with Youtube and Facebook).

http://beta.theconch.com/members/tribewanted-107 (or just go to theconch.com and search for tribewanted).

On the homepage there’s an example Holler as a tutorial.

The Conch is mine yes. It’s a community-powered guide for adventurous people (which is how I got tied up with TW through the Live in the Lakes event). The site is in a beta phase at the moment so feel free to give feedback on what works and what can be improved.
