Hurricane Clean-up Update

Jimmy Cahill By Jimmy Cahill, , Posted 18 Apr 2010

BulaSia Everyone! Greetings from a rainy paradise! It seems that Hurricane Tomasi may have broken something loose in the skies, as it has been raining more days than not since he came thundering through Vorovoro.

Island clean up has been progressing at a breakneck pace. Thanks to some generous donations, we have had some extra workers here on the island and the village is looking better each day. We have gotten our water tank repaired, and placed back up on the hill after the winds blew it down, and it is filled to the top from all of the rain.

The gardens are getting some extra attention also, as there were quite a lot of trees that came down on top of them. The trees have been cleared, and a bonus has been all of the extra sunshine that is now able to shine down on the new growth. So we are nurturing the new plants, and loving all of the rain that is feeding our thirsty new sprouts.

These trees that came down were put to a good use by our team, as they nailed, and cut, and strapped them all together to construct a frame for a bure. The coconut leaves that came down were also put to use and woven into a covering for what was to become our newest accommodation. The new house has been named Jerusalemi, and is being inhabited a VERY happy Lucas!

As the days pass, the island continues to look more and more amazing, and of course, as the sun sets and the knives and hammers are stowed neatly in the tool shed, the sound of kava being pounded still rings through the village. A big VinakaVakaLevu to all who have given to help our island rebuild, and also to our Team Fiji for all of their hard work in the village!

Until next time…….

Jimmy
