Tabili search has begun......

After 4 faithful years of service, Vorovoro’s tabili(the big wooden stump the grog is pounded in) has decided it’s grog days are finished. Too many powerful hands have pounded grog in it over the years, and the bottom has finally pushed through.

For those of you who are numbers minded, this is a solid block of hardwood, 22 inches tall and 12 inches across with a hole in the middle about 18 inches deep. When the first grog was pounded in this lovely piece of wood, the hole was barely 6 inches deep. 4 years of force and friction have worn away at it until finally with a crushing blow from Nemani, the bottom came out.

When a new one is acquired, (the search is under way!) we will have a ceremony of some sort and relieve this one of it’s duties and give it a home as a table support, or maybe offer it up to the fire gods one night!

Until then, we’ll keep on using our temporary tabili which is made of steel, and lacks the terrific “heartbeat” thud that the other provided.

Talo!
