Bats!
Tags:
It is mango season, and the bats are eating every last one and dropping the mango pits onto the ground. It’s a mess! So a few days we went bat hunting with slingshots and sticks. We walked up and down and up and down the beach looking in the trees to shoot the bats. Nemani almost hit one with a stick he threw. We hit a lot with the slingshot but the rocks just bounced off the bats and they looked at us and flew away. Then we went and watched a movie while Nemani was doing some night fishing. While he was gone, I went to bed, but the story I heard the next morning was that my dad and Nemani went out later that night and got two bats. Kini cooked up the bats and we tried them. It tasted sort of like chicken, but too chewy for me so I gave it to my dad.
Normally, I don’t like killing things, but we have to kill the rats and bats here or if we don’t they will breed out of control and over run the island. I am glad I wasn’t there when they were killed, but it has to be done. I’m just glad I wasn’t the one doing it!
Moce for now!
