Look what the hurricane blew in!

Guess what everybody ??? I have a new house! A few weeks ago, my mom and dad decided that I needed to go somewhere other than the Funhouse (This is where I had been living since we first got here), since it can bunk 3 Tribe members, and at the moment it was just housing little ol’ me. So I moved into the Bure that the Tribe Chief usually stays in. The reason I was able to go in there was that at the time we didn’t have a Tribe Chief.

But then, barely 3 days after I moved in, we were smack in the middle of a category 4 cyclone. After the storm had passed, my parents and team Fiji decided it would be a good idea to build me a house on the beach. There were lots of coconut leaves around on the ground, and also a lot of trees. The first thing we did was to take a trip to Pupu Epeli’s mangroves to get some lumber. Then, using the mangrove wood, and also the wood of trees taken down by the cyclone, they started work on the frame of the house. When the frame was done, I gave some kava to Pupu and the rest of the workers, as is the custom in Fiji when someone makes the frame for your house.

Over the next week, they covered the frame with woven coconut leaves until it was finished. Then we had a little opening ceremony and Chloe, our new Tribe Chief, cut the ribbon. Then I went inside and OMG! It was super awesome! There was a little window next to the door, and a little tiny door in the wall that could let in a nice breeze on a hot day. And there was a woven reed mat on the sand floor, and the bed was extra long, so that half would be my bed, and I could put my stuff on the other side.

So now I’m moved into my little Vale ni Luke!

Until next time…
